Quintero golf and country club is the realization of lea and gary mcclung's dream of providing world-class golf to a welcoming neighborhood.
The mcclung dream has come true, thanks to rees jones and co-designer steve weisser. It's a beautiful concept set among the cacti of the sonoran desert, and it was formerly known as the founder's course (although there was a second quintero course in the works called charter, which was planned to be a greg norman design but never saw the light of day). The architecture passes through valleys in the central arizonan hieroglyphic mountains' foothills. The mountains not only offer a majestic backdrop, but they also provide exciting elevation shifts.
The 9th hole is either the easiest, or at least one of the most memorable one-shot holes you'll ever play, as you must hold a diamond-shaped lake to reach the tee, which is set stage-like atop a rock wall.
The course, which had previously been reserved for a small group of students, was opened to the general public in 2011.
