Aphrodite Hills

Cyprus

When aphrodite hills opened early in the new millennium, american golf course architect cabell b. robinson had been interested in course design for 35 years, and he found his cypriot construction to be the pinnacle of his experience during that period.

The 18-hole aphrodite hills course, which is part of a 290-room hotel and residential development just 10 minutes from paphos airport in sunny cyprus, is a popular golfing destination for visitors.

The course, which took five years to build and completed in 2002, is constructed over two comparatively flat landforms divided by a deep gorge, which robinson integrated into the design to create two stunning holes on the front nine (3rd and 7th). The property's existing carob and olive trees were replaced with additional planting to create a mature mediterranean landscape.

If horseshoe greens, cross bunkers, ponds (at holes 10 and 18), and doglegs weren't enough, the builder added an 18th century kiln and an old olive press in the middle of the fairways on holes 1 and 8 to give the course some more personality.
