Golf de Fontainebleau is one of the oldest and most respected courses in France, originally opened in 1909. The layout was redesigned by Tom Simpson and later refined by Fred Hawtree and Martin Hawtree. Set within the Fontainebleau Forest, on former royal hunting grounds, the course winds through mature woodland with narrow, tree-lined fairways.
It is known for its extensive bunkering, with over 100 bunkers protecting the greens and shaping many of the holes. The clubhouse is a notable feature, with interior frescoes by artist Paul Tavernier. For those planning a golf break in France, Fontainebleau offers a classic and highly regarded test in a historic setting.
