Macdonald Portal (Championship)

At the leafy portal golf and country club in the northwest of england, there's plenty of golf to be found, forty-five holes to be precise. Donald steel designed many courses in cheshire, but the portal championship course, which opened in 1990, may have been his best.

The championship plan also has some outstanding golf holes. From the elevated green, the 3rd is a giant 602-yard par five that's a ball-striker's dream. Only the game's biggest hitters will attempt to strike the green in two, and some major hitters will certainly have attempted and failed, only to trap their ball in the lake that protects the green's edge.
