The Championship Course at Penina Hotel & Golf Resort holds a special place in the history of golf in the Algarve. Designed by Sir Henry Cotton and opened in 1966, it was the region’s first 18-hole course and set the standard for those that followed. This par-73 layout is known for its flat, tree-lined fairways and classic parkland feel, placing a premium on accuracy from the tee.
Water hazards come into play on the back nine, most notably on the demanding closing stretch. A regular host of the Portuguese Open in its early years, the course offers a traditional, championship test and remains a cornerstone of golf at Penina Hotel & Golf Resort.
