Golf de Fontainebleau was originally opened in 1909 making it one of the oldest in France. The golf course was redesigned by Tom Simpson and further improved by Frederic Hawtree and his son Martin, both great golf course designers to the fantastic course that it is today.
It is located in the Fontainebleau forest a short drive from the town centre, on an ancient hunting ground. Its narrow fairways are bordered with various species of trees such as pine, silver birch, cherry, beech and oak. The golf course is characterised by over 100 bunkers protecting the greens and the lush fairways that run through the mature woodland which makes the course so attractive and difficult.
Fontainebleau’s Norman-style clubhouse is uniquely decorated with tree frescoes painted by Paul Tavernier, a member of the nearby Barbizon art school, well worth a visit in its own right.
Fontainebleau is a great golf club that many consider as one of the best in Europe. It has formerly ranked as number one course in France and in the European Top 20. For serious golfers, this is a must play.
