Las Americas

Spain

The las americas golf course is located in the heart of the major tourism district, adjacent to playa de las americas and los christianos, and directly across from the main airport route. Though apartments and villas surround the 18-hole course, they never obstruct sight lines to the point of being offensive.

The course, which is divided into two nine-hole loops, measures 6,607 yards and features a traditional pattern of two par threes, two par fives, and five par fours on each nine. The terrain gently slopes toward the shore, providing some fun elevation changes, particularly on the outer part. Water hazards are present on some holes, but never to the point that they take over the game.

The first nine begins with the right doglegged 2nd on the lower end of the course, continues with the 3rd, which has a stream flowing through it in front of the green, then the short par four, uphill 4th, leading to the daunting par three 5th, which has a small lake to the front left of the green. The 153-yard, par three 13th hole on the outer half is a real hazard waiting to happen since the putting surface is covered by water on three sides.

As the las americas and adjacent adeje courses opened in 1998, they practically doubled the number of courses in tenerife's southern tourist trap. Now that the up-market abama resort has opened in 2005, golfers in this part of the island are spoiled for options, as one of the five golf clubs in the region is equipped to provide high-quality holiday golf.
