Lee Westwood Colt, Close House - Golf Course in England

About Lee Westwood Colt, Close House

Graham wylie, developer and co-founder of the tech firm sage, calls near house home away from home. As a "thank you" for his education, wylie bought the close house estate from newcastle university and spent a whopping £25 million in the scheme, the cornerstone of which is an impressive 18th century mansion.

Close house is situated in beautiful northumberland countryside, next to hadrian's wall and the village of heddon-on-the-stone, which draws thousands of visitors to the longest unbroken stretch of wall, and it is just ten miles from newcastle's city centre.

The first golf club was founded here in 1968 for newcastle university golfers to refine their skills. the course, now known as the filly, was renovated in 2006 and then significantly altered by scott macpherson in 2013. The filly is now a much better course with usga greens and excellent river tyne views, but the current colt course, which scott macpherson routed through 170 acres of new ground, is the true golf thoroughbred at close house.

Macpherson spent eighteen months studying harry colt's designs before devising a blueprint for a new close house course that pays homage to the golden age of golf course architecture.
